How to prepare for a digital marketing interview in Kerala
Ready to build the projects these questions are about? The AI digital marketing course runs live Google Ads, Meta Ads and SEO campaigns you can talk about in interviews.
Quick answer: Prepare three things: one campaign you can explain end to end (goal, audience, budget, creative, result), one website or page you have ranked or improved, and a working knowledge of GA4. Interviewers in Kerala hire on evidence, not vocabulary.
Most digital marketing executive interviews in Kochi and Trivandrum have two rounds. The first is a conversation with the marketing lead or agency founder, who checks whether you understand the channels and can speak about results. The second is often a practical task: write ad copy for a client, audit a landing page, or plan a month of posts for a local brand. Some companies add a short test on Excel or Google Sheets because reporting is a large part of a junior role.
Before the interview, open the company's website, their Instagram page and their Google Business Profile. Note two things they do well and one thing you would improve. Bringing a specific observation about the employer is the single easiest way to stand out from candidates who only memorised definitions.
Digital marketing interview questions for freshers: the basics
Quick answer: Fresher questions test whether you understand the funnel, the main channels and how success is measured. Keep answers short, name a metric, and connect it to a business outcome such as leads or sales.
- What is digital marketing and how is it different from traditional marketing? Digital marketing reaches customers through search, social media, email, WhatsApp, websites and apps. The difference is measurement and targeting: every rupee can be tracked to a click, a lead or a sale, and audiences can be chosen by intent and behaviour rather than by location alone.
- Explain the marketing funnel. Awareness, consideration, conversion and retention. Different channels work at different stages: Reels and display for awareness, search and remarketing for conversion, email and WhatsApp for retention.
- What KPIs would you track for a lead generation campaign? Cost per lead, lead-to-customer rate, conversion rate on the landing page, and return on ad spend. Impressions and likes are secondary.
- What is the difference between organic and paid reach? Organic reach is earned through content and SEO; paid reach is bought through ads. A good plan uses paid to learn quickly and organic to compound over time.
- Which digital marketing campaign impressed you recently and why? Pick a Kerala or Indian brand, describe the idea in one line, and explain the mechanism that made it work. Avoid generic answers about big global brands.
SEO interview questions and answers
Quick answer: SEO questions check whether you can find keywords, write pages that rank and fix the technical issues that hold a site back. In 2026 expect at least one question on AI Overviews and how search is changing.
- What is the difference between on-page, off-page and technical SEO? On-page is the content and HTML of a page (titles, headings, internal links). Off-page is reputation earned elsewhere, mainly backlinks and mentions. Technical SEO is crawlability, speed, mobile usability, structured data and indexing.
- How do you do keyword research for a local business, say a dental clinic in Kochi? Start with the services the clinic sells, expand with Google autocomplete, People also ask and a keyword tool, then group terms by intent: "dentist near me" is transactional, "root canal cost in Kochi" is commercial, "is tooth whitening safe" is informational. Map each group to a page.
- What is search intent and why does it matter? Intent is what the searcher wants to do. If the top results are guides and you publish a product page, you will not rank, however good the page is.
- What are Core Web Vitals? Google's page experience metrics: Largest Contentful Paint for loading, Interaction to Next Paint for responsiveness and Cumulative Layout Shift for visual stability.
- How has AI changed SEO? Google AI Overviews and assistants such as ChatGPT and Perplexity now answer many queries directly. Pages need clear, quotable answers, structured data and real expertise to be cited. This is often called AEO (answer engine optimisation) and GEO (generative engine optimisation).
- What would you check first if organic traffic dropped suddenly? Search Console for manual actions or indexing errors, recent site changes, a Google update, lost rankings on key pages, and whether tracking itself broke.
Google Ads and performance marketing interview questions
Quick answer: Paid media questions test account structure, bidding, quality and the ability to diagnose a campaign that is spending without converting. Always answer with the metric you would look at and the change you would make.
- Explain the structure of a Google Ads account. Account, campaigns (budget and settings), ad groups (themes), keywords and ads. Search, Performance Max, Display, Video and Shopping are the main campaign types.
- What is Quality Score? Google's 1 to 10 rating of expected click-through rate, ad relevance and landing page experience. Higher scores lower your cost per click for the same position.
- What are keyword match types? Broad, phrase and exact. Broad gives reach, exact gives control. Most accounts use phrase and exact with a negative keyword list.
- A campaign is getting clicks but no leads. What do you check? Landing page speed and relevance, whether the form works on mobile, search terms report for irrelevant queries, location and time targeting, and whether conversion tracking is firing.
- What is the difference between CPC, CPM and CPA bidding? You pay per click, per thousand impressions or per action. The right one depends on the goal and on how much conversion data the account already has.
- How would you spend a monthly budget of Rs 50,000 for a Kerala real-estate project? A plausible answer: most of it on search for high-intent terms in the project's city, a share on Meta lead ads with a video walkthrough, and remarketing to site visitors. State that you would shift budget weekly based on cost per qualified lead.
Social media and content marketing interview questions
Quick answer: Social questions look for strategy rather than posting for its own sake. Talk about audience, format, cadence and the metric that proves the content worked.
- How would you plan a month of content for a local brand? Define the goal, pick two or three content pillars (education, proof, offers), choose formats per platform (Reels and carousels on Instagram, posts and articles on LinkedIn), fix a posting cadence, and plan how you will measure saves, shares, profile visits and enquiries.
- Which metrics matter on Instagram for a business account? Reach, saves, shares, profile visits, website taps and DMs. Follower count on its own is a weak signal.
- What is the difference between B2B and B2C content? B2B sells to a committee over months and rewards expertise and case studies, mostly on LinkedIn and email. B2C sells to individuals quickly and rewards emotion, offers and short video.
- How do you handle negative comments or a bad review? Reply quickly and politely in public, move the conversation private, fix the problem, and follow up. Never delete genuine criticism.
- How do you use AI tools for content without sounding generic? Use AI for research, outlines and variations, then add real customer language, local detail and the brand's own point of view. Always fact-check figures.
Analytics, GA4 and tracking questions
Quick answer: Analytics questions separate juniors who post from juniors who improve. Know what GA4 events, conversions, UTM parameters and attribution are, and be able to explain a report in plain language.
- What is GA4 and how is it different from Universal Analytics? GA4 is Google's current analytics platform. It is event based rather than session based, works across web and app, and relies on modelling where consent limits data.
- What are UTM parameters? Tags added to a URL (source, medium, campaign, content, term) so that GA4 can attribute traffic correctly. Without them, WhatsApp and Instagram traffic often shows as direct.
- What is a conversion and how do you set one up? A key action such as a form submit, a call click or a purchase. In GA4 you mark an event as a key event, usually sent through Google Tag Manager.
- Explain attribution in one sentence. Attribution decides which channels get credit for a conversion when several touched the customer, and the model you choose changes which channel looks best.
- If a client asks why their website gets traffic but no enquiries, how would you investigate? Check landing pages by source, engagement rate, form funnel drop-off, mobile experience, page speed and whether the offer matches the ad promise.

Scenario and behavioural questions for a digital marketing executive interview
Quick answer: Scenario questions test judgement. Use a simple structure: the situation, the options, the choice you would make and the metric you would watch to know if you were right.
- "Our competitor is outranking us for our own brand name. What do you do?" Check whether they are bidding on your brand in Google Ads, run a brand campaign to protect it, strengthen the home page and Google Business Profile, and build brand mentions.
- "The founder wants 1,000 followers in a month. How do you respond?" Explain that followers are a vanity metric, propose enquiries or sales as the goal, and suggest a Reels plus collaboration plan that can grow followers as a by-product.
- "A campaign went live with a wrong link. What do you do?" Pause, fix, relaunch, tell the client before they notice, and add a pre-launch checklist so it does not repeat.
- "Tell us about a campaign that failed." Pick a real one, explain what you learnt, and show the change you made next time. Interviewers trust candidates who can describe a failure calmly.
- "Why digital marketing, and why us?" Connect your interest to a project you enjoyed, then name something specific about the company that you want to work on.

Digital marketing salary and roles in Kerala after the interview
Quick answer: Public job-portal ranges put digital marketing executives in India at roughly Rs 3 to 5 lakh a year at entry level, with Kerala offers toward the lower end and agency roles in Kochi and Trivandrum in the middle. Specialists in performance marketing and SEO move faster, and remote roles for clients outside Kerala pay more.
The job titles you will interview for include digital marketing executive, SEO executive, social media executive, performance marketing associate, content marketer and marketing analyst. Agencies rotate juniors across accounts, which builds breadth quickly; in-house roles at hospitals, builders, colleges and retail chains go deeper on one brand. Both are good starts. Our guide to digital marketing jobs and salary in Kerala covers the ladder in detail.
Whatever the title, the questions above are the ones that decide the offer. Prepare the three pieces of evidence, practise saying your answers out loud, and bring one idea for the employer.
