Cyberpark Kozhikode and the IT career question for Malabar
Cyberpark Kozhikode is the anchor of a question that thousands of students and working professionals in northern Kerala ask every year: can I build an IT career without moving to Kochi, Trivandrum or Bengaluru? For a long time the honest answer was no. The large IT parks were in the south, and Malabar graduates packed their bags after college.
That is changing. Cyberpark, UL Cyberpark and a growing set of private startups now give Calicut a real, if smaller, IT job market, and remote work has made the location of your employer matter far less than it did. This guide looks at what Kozhikode offers, how it compares with Kochi, which skills are worth learning if you intend to stay in Malabar, and how to train locally while applying widely.

What is Cyberpark Kozhikode?
Quick answer: Cyberpark is the government-run IT park in Kozhikode, set up on 28 January 2009 as an autonomous society under the Government of Kerala to grow the IT industry in the northern districts. It follows the model of Technopark in Trivandrum and Infopark in Kochi, offering built-up office space and infrastructure for software companies.
The idea behind Cyberpark was simple. Kerala already had two successful IT parks in the south, and the state wanted a third hub so that graduates from Kozhikode, Malappuram, Kannur, Wayanad and Kasaragod would have an option closer to home. The park was created as a society so it could operate with some independence, develop land and buildings, and bring in companies on lease.
Today Cyberpark hosts a mix of software development firms, IT-enabled services companies and startups. Compared with Technopark and Infopark the campus is smaller and the tenant list is shorter, but it has given northern Kerala something it did not have before: a recognisable address for IT work. For background on the park and its history, see the Cyberpark Kozhikode Wikipedia entry.
UL Cyberpark jobs and the private IT scene in Calicut
Quick answer: UL Cyberpark is a privately developed IT park in Kozhikode that, alongside the government-run Cyberpark, forms the core of the city's IT job market. UL Cyberpark jobs are mainly with software services firms, product startups and the technology arms of larger business groups.
Where the government park set the direction, private development added capacity. UL Cyberpark gave companies that wanted a modern campus in Calicut another option, and the two parks are usually mentioned together when people talk about IT companies in Calicut. Beyond the parks, a layer of smaller firms works out of ordinary commercial buildings across the city: web and app development shops, digital marketing agencies, software testing teams and the in-house IT departments of retail, healthcare and education businesses.
For a job seeker this spread matters. Openings at the two parks are the visible ones, posted on job portals and company pages. Many of the roles at smaller firms are filled through referrals, college placement cells and LinkedIn, so an active local network is worth as much as a polished CV in Kozhikode.
IT jobs in Kozhikode: what the market looks like next to Kochi
Quick answer: Kozhikode has a smaller, growing IT park scale with startups, software services and product firms as the typical employers, and developers, testers, support staff and digital marketers as the common roles. Kochi has the largest IT park in Kerala, large services firms and global companies, and the full range of roles. Remote work is very common from Kozhikode and common from Kochi.
| Factor | Kozhikode | Kochi |
|---|
| IT park scale | Smaller, growing | Largest in Kerala |
| Typical employers | Startups, software services, product firms | Large IT services firms and global companies |
| Common roles | Developers, testers, support, digital marketing | Full range |
| Remote work | Very common | Common |
The table explains why so many Malabar professionals run a two-track career. Local roles at startups and services firms give you experience and a salary close to home. Remote roles with Kochi, Bengaluru or Gulf employers give you access to the larger market without leaving it. Many people start on the first track and add the second once they have a year or two of experience.
It also explains the kind of experience you get in Kozhikode. At a startup or a small services firm, a fresher often touches the whole product rather than one narrow module, which is excellent preparation for remote work later, where employers want people who can work without constant supervision.

IT companies in Calicut: who hires and for what
IT companies in Calicut fall into four broad groups, and each hires differently.
- Software services firms at Cyberpark and UL Cyberpark build and maintain applications for clients in India and abroad. They hire developers, testers and support engineers, and they are the most likely to run structured fresher intakes.
- Product startups build their own software, often in education, healthcare, logistics or retail technology. They hire smaller numbers but offer broad exposure, and they value people who can learn quickly.
- Digital marketing and web agencies serve the large base of local businesses in Malabar, from textile retailers to hospitals and colleges. They hire digital marketers, content and design staff, and web developers.
- In-house IT teams at retail chains, hospitals, educational groups and trading companies hire MIS staff, ERP and accounting specialists, and Excel-heavy reporting roles.
The fourth group is easy to overlook, but it is where a lot of steady local employment sits. A hospital group or a supermarket chain in Kozhikode needs people who can run its ERP, build its monthly reports and keep its accounts system clean, and those roles rarely appear under an "IT jobs" search.
Skills that work best from Malabar
Quick answer: If you intend to stay in Kozhikode, learn one remote-friendly skill and one locally demanded skill. Remote-friendly options are full stack development, data analytics, cloud support and SAP ABAP. Local demand is strongest for accounting with ERP, digital marketing, and MIS and Excel roles in retail and healthcare.
The remote-friendly list has a common thread: the work is delivered through a laptop and a ticketing or version-control system, so the employer does not need you in the building.
- Full stack development: web and application development is the most common remote role in India, and startups in Kozhikode hire for it locally as well.
- Data analytics: Excel, SQL, Power BI and Python skills are in demand from Kochi to the Gulf, and analyst work is routinely done remotely.
- Cloud support: AWS and DevOps roles that monitor and maintain cloud environments run across time zones and are often staffed from home.
- SAP ABAP: SAP development is among the most remote-friendly SAP skills, with support and development work handed over online.
The local-demand list reflects the Malabar economy: a strong retail and wholesale trade, a large healthcare sector, many educational institutions and a deep connection to the Gulf.
- Accounting with ERP: trading houses and retail groups need people who understand both accounts and the software that runs them.
- Digital marketing: local businesses compete online, and agencies and in-house teams hire steadily.
- MIS and Excel roles: hospitals, supermarkets and distributors run on daily reports built in Excel and simple databases.
Combining one skill from each list gives you a local job to start with and a remote path to grow into. You can see how these programmes fit together at Cokonet Academy, and compare them across all courses.
Remote work from Kozhikode: the two-track career
Quick answer: Many Malabar professionals combine a local job with remote work for Kochi, Bengaluru and Gulf employers, or move fully remote after a year or two of experience. Development, data, cloud and SAP roles are the most commonly remote or hybrid.
Remote work changed the arithmetic for northern Kerala more than for any other part of the state. Before, the choice was between a small local market and relocation. Now a developer in Kozhikode can work for a product company in Bengaluru, a data analyst in Malappuram can report to a team in Kochi, and a cloud support engineer in Kannur can cover a Gulf client on a shift schedule, all without moving.
A few practical points make this work well:
- Get experience first. Most remote employers want one to two years of experience, so a local or hybrid first job in Kozhikode is the stepping stone, not a detour.
- Build a visible profile. A GitHub account, a public Power BI or Tableau portfolio, or LinkedIn posts about problems you solved are how remote recruiters find candidates outside the big cities.
- Set up properly. Reliable broadband with a backup connection, a quiet workspace and a dependable laptop are the minimum. Kozhikode has good connectivity, but a mobile hotspot as a fallback is still wise.
- Stay close to the Gulf opportunity. Malabar has deep ties to the Gulf, and many returning professionals use their business knowledge from there to land remote roles with Gulf-based employers in trading, construction and retail technology.
Train locally, apply widely
The best preparation for a Malabar IT career is training that you can do from Kozhikode and a job search that is not limited to it. Cokonet Academy runs Kozhikode-focused programmes in Data Analytics, AWS DevOps, SAP FICO and Python Full Stack, with live online batches so you can learn from Calicut, Malappuram, Kannur or Wayanad without travelling south.
Each programme maps to one of the skill groups above. Data Analytics and Python Full Stack are remote-friendly from the start. AWS DevOps leads to cloud support and engineering roles that run across time zones. SAP FICO pairs with the strong local demand for accounting with ERP and opens the door to SAP support roles with employers anywhere.
Once you are trained, apply in three directions at once: local roles at Cyberpark, UL Cyberpark and private firms, hybrid and remote roles with Kochi and Trivandrum companies, and remote roles with Bengaluru and Gulf employers. The candidates who get hired fastest are the ones who do not treat Kozhikode as a limit on where they can work.
