Why parallel study fails, in practice

The arithmetic is unforgiving. One module properly learned is roughly 4 to 5 months of classes plus five to seven weekly hours of server practice. Two in parallel doubles the load precisely where beginners can least afford it - the practice hours that convert theory into interview-ready skill. The typical parallel learner ends with two half-configured modules and zero convincing interview stories.

Employers reinforce the arithmetic. A junior role is a FICO role or an MM role, never both; interviewers probe depth - run the cycle, explain the postings, handle the exception - and depth in one module beats familiarity with two every single time. The market rewards a spike, not a spread.

Which module first: the background rule

The rule that rarely misses: start from the domain you already own. Commerce, accounting and finance profiles - B.Com, M.Com, CA-Inter, working accountants - start with FICO, where ledgers and closing cycles are home ground. Engineering, production, stores, purchase and logistics profiles start with MM, where materials and goods movements are the native language - the mapping is expanded in MM for mechanical and logistics graduates.

Genuinely split profiles - a commerce graduate running a family business’s purchasing, say - should read SAP FICO vs SAP MM and pick by which document world they would happily inhabit for years. Either answer is right if the depth follows.

The integration layer: where the pair earns its keep

Here is the nuance the either-or framing misses: MM and FICO meet constantly inside SAP. A goods receipt posts to inventory accounts; invoice verification touches vendor liabilities; account determination decides which ledger every material movement hits. That is why consultants who eventually hold both modules command a premium: integration issues are where projects stall, and someone who owns both sides of account determination is the person who unblocks them. The two-module career path, sequenced
