Software testing: still the widest fresher entrance into Technopark

Testing has a reputation problem in Kerala that the actual job market does not support. It is treated as the fallback for people who could not become developers, and yet quality engineering is where a very large share of Technopark fresher offers come from every year, and where automation engineers now earn on par with mid-level developers. It is also the most degree-agnostic technical career available in this city. We regularly train B.Sc, B.Com and BCA graduates, mechanical and electronics engineers who never found a core job, and career-break returners, and the ones who put the work in are placed at a rate that surprises them.

Who hires for this in and around Trivandrum

The IT services companies at Technopark Kazhakkoottam are the volume recruiters, staffing testing teams for overseas client projects, and they hire in cohorts rather than one seat at a time. Product companies on campus keep permanent quality engineering teams and generally offer deeper, more interesting work — test strategy, automation frameworks, performance and release engineering — but hire in smaller numbers and screen harder. Infopark Kochi mirrors both patterns. There is also steady demand from health-tech and fintech companies in the corridor where testing carries regulatory weight, and from smaller studios and agencies who need someone who can own quality single-handedly. For candidates in and around the capital, Technocity and the Kazhakkoottam belt mean the commute from Attingal, Kesavadasapuram or Pattom is manageable, which is not a trivial consideration when you are on a first salary.

Manual to automation: the transition that decides your salary

A tester who only executes test cases by hand will hit a ceiling within a few years, and every honest person in the industry will tell you the same. The course is therefore built to move you across that line. You start with the fundamentals that automation cannot replace — how to read a requirement critically, design test cases that find real defects, write a defect report a developer does not send back, understand risk-based prioritisation and where testing sits in an agile delivery cycle. Then you move into automation properly: Selenium and Playwright for web interfaces, an understanding of Java or Python sufficient to write and maintain framework code rather than record and replay, API testing with tools like Postman and REST Assured, database validation with SQL, version control, and running suites inside a CI pipeline. Performance testing basics and mobile testing are covered because both keep appearing in local job descriptions.

By the end you should be able to walk into an interview with a framework you built yourself and explain the design choices in it. That, far more than a tool list on a resume, is what converts.

The Ulloor centre sits near Pattom and Kesavadasapuram, roughly twenty minutes from Technopark, and runs weekday, evening and weekend batches, with online-live for learners travelling in from Kollam, Varkala or Neyyattinkara. Placement support continues until you are hired, and remains support rather than any form of guarantee.
